For families seeking clarity around:
In-law tensions • Parent – Child disputes • Generational Trauma • Difficult Family Patterns • Dysfunctionality • Boundaries

- Parent–Child Disputes Facilitating dialogue around recurring disagreements, unmet needs, expectations, communication difficulties, and changing roles across different stages of the parent–child relationship.
- Generational Trauma Exploring how unresolved experiences, beliefs, emotional patterns, and coping strategies may be carried across generations and influence present family relationships.
- Difficult Family Patterns Identifying recurring patterns such as conflict, abuse, avoidance, triangulation, scapegoating, over-involvement, emotional distance, or repeated relational cycles, and exploring healthier ways of relating.
- Family Dysfunction — Understanding patterns that disrupt healthy family functioning, including unclear roles, unhealthy communication, power struggles, and difficulties adapting to change.
- Boundaries — Clarifying emotional, physical, relational, and practical boundaries within the family while balancing individual autonomy with connection and family responsibilities.
How Family Mediation Counselling Sessions Work
Family sessions provide a structured space for family members to discuss concerns, understand different perspectives and identify practical next steps. The process may vary depending on the family’s needs.
- Understanding the Main Concerns: The session begins by exploring what brought the family to counselling, how the conflict developed and what each person hopes to achieve.
- Hearing Different Perspectives: Each participant has an opportunity to describe their experience. The discussion focuses on respectful communication and understanding the concerns behind the disagreement.
- Exploring Practical Options: Depending on the situation, family members may discuss communication strategies, clearer boundaries, specific arrangements or other practical steps that could reduce conflict.
- Agreeing on Next Steps: The session may conclude with a clearer understanding of what each person will consider or do next.
Mediation vs. Counselling
How Mediation Differs from Counselling Counselling primarily focuses on an individual’s or family’s emotional wellbeing, psychological concerns, and patterns of functioning. Mediation is more resolution-oriented: it focuses on the specific disagreement, facilitates communication between the people involved, and helps them reach workable agreements. Mediation does not require the parties to restore or continue their relationship.
At Chromfinite, we integrate both Mediation & Counselling through Mediation Counselling addressing the emotional and relational dynamics alongside the practical concerns that need to be resolved.
